Something's not matching up above; either you have CATALINA_HOME
set to C:\tomcat or C:\tomcat\bin -- which is it? It should be
the former...

What you'd enter, once your environment's correct, is
C:> %CATALINA_HOME%\bin\startup.bat

C:> %CATALINA_HOME%\bin\catalina.bat run

if you want to watch the messages in that window...

But mind the "\"s  :-)
