Sessions are stored per/context.  Just because you are able to forward to
another context, doesn't mean you should expect session variables from one
context to be available in the other.

Think about it.  If you are using session cookies, those cookies are set for
a
specific path within a specific domain.  The specific path is the context
path.
 As such, any single context would not be able to read cookies from any
other
single context.

Also keep in mind that crossContext is not specified by the servlet spec,
but a
proprietary feature of Tomcat itself and is not guaranteed to work across
appservers.
