i tried this option also..but it doesnt open still in a excel.. 
that is why iam stuck and wonder whats wrong...

You can setup mime mappings in your web.xml, for example:

<mime-mapping>
 <extension>xls</extension>
 <mime-type>application/vnd.ms-excel</mime-type>
</mime-mapping>
