Did you set the rtexprvalue to true in your tag library descriptor?
This allows you to use JSP expressions as attributes in custom tags.


Example:
      <attribute>
        <name>selectedOption</name>
        <required>false</required>
        <rtexprvalue>true</rtexprvalue>
      </attribute>
