Yes this is java bug 4776385, which will never be fixed.

Code compiled with Java 1.4 (like Tomcat) doesn't work with standard Java 
1.2

To fix this you need to do either:

- Install a newer JVM, 1.3 or higher.
Why are you using such and old JVM anyway?

-  Install the Hotspot  2.0 for Java 1.2
