You should instead use:

<servlet>
   <servlet-name>MyWelcomServlet</servlet-name>
   <servlet-class>gc.MyWelcomServlet</servlet-class>
</servlet>
<servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>MyWelcomServlet</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>/MyWelcomServlet</url-pattern>
</servlet-mapping>
