Subject AW: Startup problem on SuSE Linux 7.3
Date Wed, 17 Apr 2002 10:44:35 GMT
Hi Martin,
make shure that the symlink /usr/lib/java points to the J2SE. SuSE by
default sets this to JDK1.8.something.
In /etc/rc.config the value CREATE_JAVALINK should be set to "no" because
otherwise each time SuSEconfig runs it will set the link back.
Another thing would be to try to reach tomcat through <servername>:8080 or
<serveradress>:8080, if this works, it's a problem with routing/dns (trivial
but sometimes true ;-) )

Betreff: Startup problem on SuSE Linux 7.3

Hi, could someone please help me out with my problem getting Tomcat to work?
I tried to get it working for several days now but I always get stuck at the
same point.

I'm running J2SE 1.3.1-b24 on SuSE Linux 7.3. Each time I try to start
Tomcat 4.0.3 like this:

linux:/ # /usr/local/jakarta-tomcat-4.0.3/bin/
Using CATALINA_BASE: /usr/local/jakarta-tomcat-4.0.3
Using CATALINA_HOME: /usr/local/jakarta-tomcat-4.0.3
Using CATALINA_TMPDIR: /usr/local/jakarta-tomcat-4.0.3/temp
Using JAVA_HOME: /usr/lib/java
linux:/ #

absolutely nothing happens afterwards. If try to reach port 8080 in Mozilla
browser I get "The connection was refused when attempting to contact
localhost:8080." I get the same message if change the port e.g. to 1977. I
also told mozilla not to go through a proxy for localhost and I can reach
e.g. Apache HTTP Server by using localhost - so this shouldn't be a problem.
Below I've the error message on a part of my server.xml .

I would appreciate any comments on this.
Thanks! Martin

here's the error message from catalina.out:
