Another approach would be to use mod_proxy:

LoadModule proxy_module       /usr/lib/apache/libproxy.so
[...]
AddModule mod_proxy.c
[...]
ProxyRequests On
ProxyPass /yourtomcatdir/ http://your-other-machine
ProxyPassReverse /yourtomcatdir/ http://your-other-machine
