but isn't there some type of a script that can compile all the jsp's in a
certain directory and it's subdirectories, or am I mistaken?

  If you are talking from the users point of view then one way out is you
yourself call your JSP Page once so that is is complied and available and
they do not have to wait for it to be compiled.

    How do you pre compile the jsp pages so that Tomcat will not need to
compile them the first time someone tries to retrieve it in their browser?
