Subject Re: IIS + Tomcat on two different machines
Date Wed, 03 Jan 2001 00:19:59 GMT
Hi Dan,
I've only done this successfully with Apache, using mod_rewrite, which
allows the front end Apache box (running mod_rewrite) to reverse proxy the
requests to the tomcat box which is on a private subnet. I know that IIS
allow forwarding/redirection (see Home Directory tab in ISM), which would
allow the box on the public side to hand off requests to the tomcat box.
This hinges on the tomcat box being able to get through the firewall. If
you're not in a hurry, you may also wnat to check out the *new* *new* things
from ms, ISA Server (, which will do
more of what mod_rewrite does.

The tomcat box I have running is on a private subnet, and the only way I was
able to get it to work was to hard-code tomcat to return the ip of the proxy
machine, which is something else to be aware of. Mail me if you want more
