Subject RE: Address In use

in the {TOMCAT_HOME}/conf/ directory you will find a file called
server.xml. If you open this file you will see lots of XML tags and a
few of them (towards the bottom) define a Connector. Inside this
Connector XML tag there are another tags called Parameter. One of these
parameter tags has the name "port" and a value (which is probably
"8080"). This is the default Connector, the one that listens for the
incoming HTTP requests. You can change that value to something else and
then you will have to access your web pages through the url
"http://localhost:{the_port_number_you_chose}/" (as I said before, the
default is on port 8080 so the url would look like
"http://localhost:8080/"). If you are running Windows then you can
change this port value to 80 which is the standard http port. What you
gain from doing that is that you can access your pages without
explicitly specifying the port number (so... if you use port 80 you can
access your pages with the url "http://localhost/"). Linux does not
allow any user except the root to use port 80 and I suppose other types
of Unix OS also do that (although I don't know).

Regards, Stefan.
