Or model your starting of it on this bash function:
weather=()
{ 
    ( exec </dev/null >/dev/null 2>&1;
    FN='-misc-fixed-medium-r-semicondensed--12-90-100-100-c-60-iso8859-1';
    c="lynx http://www/weather/";
    xterm -title "Weather info" -fn ${FN} -geometry 160x77 -bg black -fg white 
-e ${c} & )

which I use to start lynx in a window that's a good size for viewing weather 
reports (some look like they're formated for 15"x11" paper).
