Main differences (that I'm aware of)

* Faster protocol. Socket is kept open between connections.
* Can identify HTTPS from HTTP
* Works with web servers other than Apache.

mod_jserv can only support Ajpv12, mod_jk can support Ajpv12 and Ajpv13.
