Subject tomcat v4.0 install observations
Date Wed, 27 Sep 2000 09:37:07 GMT
Hi,
I'd like to report a small problem I've observed installing tomcat v4.0-m1.
Running build.bat in my installation directory jakarta-tomcat-4.0 almost
completes but for the following error

deploy:
build-prepare :
	[mkdir] created dir : c:\dev\jakarta\build\webapps
	[mkdir] created dir : c:\dev\jakarta\dist\webapps

ROOT:
BUILD FAILED
build.xml : 28 : File ".\ROOT\build.xml" not found

On looking at the jakarta\build\tomcat-4.0\webapps directory it is empty.

If I then cd to jakarta\jakarta-tomcat-4.0\webapps and run build followed by
a build deploy (as recommended in the install documentation) this completes
and populates the jakarta\build\tomcat-4.0\webapps directory.

There appears to be a problem with the base install script therefore that is
fixed by doing a "manual" build in the webapps directory.

A second point that I'd like to clarify. In order to get catalina.bat to
run correctly I had to manually copy xerces.jar from my 1_2_0 installation
into jakarta\build\tomcat-4.0\lib. I'd rather not have to do this as this
directory is wipped out when a build clean is executed. Can I leverage of
my existing tomcat classpath that I've developed ?

After doing all this I can now get the version 4.0-m1 index page loading ;-)
Now I'm looking at SSL.

Regards,
