You might also want to try lsof (from
ftp://nce.sun.ca/pub/freeware/sparc/7/lsof-4.45-sol7-sparc-32-local.gz) -
the best tool for finding out who has a socket open. Just type "lsof -i
TCP:8000", it will tell you which process has the port open.

something else is listening on the port use netstat to verify this
then use ps to determine what is listening.

yes is on linux.
