As you say the benchmarks are low for 3.1
That is why the main performance bottleneck was addressed in 3.2
The is request-response reuse;
Now tomcat performs very close to all the other engines tested.

According to the benchmarks published by the Orion site, the performance of
tomcat3.1 is at the bottom of the heap by a pretty(huge) large margin.  The
servers tested included Orion, Resin, tomcat3.1, ASP,and IIs, etc.

I wonder what is your thought about it? Expecially those responsible. And
don't take me wrong, this is purely to find facts.
