/some/dir/tomcat/bin/startup.sh 2>errfile >outputfile

Where
errfile = path and filename of error file
outputfile = path and filename of standard output file

Subject: redirecting stderr output to log file

Hi all.

How does one go about setting up tomcat to write the output it writes to
stderr to a log file instead? I've looked at the tomcat.log, server.log, and
jasper.log files and they don't contain the information that's spit out to
the terminal when something goes wrong. This info is very useful so I'd like
to capture it in a file. I imagine this just involves setting something up
in the server.xml file. Could someone instruct me on how to go about this???

Thanks in advance,
-Yoav
