Hm, this sounds really interesting. But maybe this is a little bit to much.

Is such a RS/6000 much faster than an high end Intel PC with Linux and JDK
1.3?

We need a system that can handle 100 simultaneous users. That means maybe 
10 requests in a second and each requests fires a few database queries.
