Yes you can still use the latest JDBC2.0 driver with an older database.
I am using the latest Oracle JDBC driver (classes12.zip file) with the 8.1.5
database version.
But you cannot have JDBC2.0  functionality  unless the RDBMS supports it.
You ResultSet for example will not be scrollable with the classes12.zip
driver if the database version is 8.1.5
and not 8.1.6.
The driver by itself is not enough.
