No, it works fine for me on Solaris Intel

SunOS gromit 5.6 Generic_105182-15 i86pc i386 i86pc

java version "1.2.1"
Solaris VM (build Solaris_JDK_1.2.1_04, native threads, sunwjit)

tomcat 3.1
