Thanks for the additional reference. In my case, the sparse-checkout
made a lot more sense, because I needed to do things like run our test
suite on the resulting working copy before I committed anything.

But next time I need to "archive" a whole bunch of RCs or really old
tags or something, I'll definitely keep svnmucc in mind.
