Tim's comments got me thinking along the right lines.

There is an issue with how pipe-lined requests are handled. Fortunately, the
fix in 7.0.12 will stop any chance of request mix-up but you will see 505
responses.

I have a fix in mind but it needs some tests. The workaround is to switch to
NIO or APR/native, neither of which suffer from this problem.

I am reducing the severity since the response mix-ups are no longer possible
with 7.0.12.

The investigation of this issue has highlighted a number of areas that need a
wider discussion. Tim has already started a thread on some of these on the dev
list and I will be adding my observations there.
