There are no tests in org.apache.catalina.session.StandardSessionFacade or
org.apache.catalina.session.StandardSession if the session is valid or not.

This could be easily fix by adding th following code to StandardSession.getID():

if (!isValid())
            throw new IllegalStateException
                (sm.getString("standardSession.isNew.ise"));
