           Summary: IE: "Action canceled" if servlet returns pdf and
                    authentification is activated
           Product: Tomcat 5
           Version: 5.5.9
          Platform: PC
        OS/Version: Windows XP
            Status: NEW
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P2
         Component: Catalina
        AssignedTo: tomcat-dev@jakarta.apache.org
        ReportedBy: Rene.Ullrich@tab.thueringen.de

I have a Servlet (e.g. fop example servlet) that generate and return a pdf
document. Content-Type for response is set to application/pdf.
URL: http://myserver/fop/fop?xml=test.xml&xsl=test.xsl&ext=.pdf

IE opens acrobat and shows pdf well if authentification is disabled.
If authentification is enabled IE 6.0 does not display the document. It asks to
save the content and shows then an error message or displays "Action canceled".

This is the authentification part in web.xml:
  <security-constraint>
    <web-resource-collection>
      <web-resource-name>All</web-resource-name>
      <url-pattern>/</url-pattern>
    </web-resource-collection>
    <auth-constraint>
      <role-name>*</role-name>
    </auth-constraint>
    <user-data-constraint>
     <transport-guarantee>NONE</transport-guarantee>
    </user-data-constraint>
  </security-constraint>

  <login-config>
    <auth-method>BASIC</auth-method>
    <realm-name>Generate PDF</realm-name>
  </login-config>
