After upgrading to Sun Java 1.4.2_03 SE and Tomcat 5.0.18 on Windows 2000
Catalina wont startup anymore.
Java SDK is installed in C:\Programme\Java
Java RE is installed in C:\Programme\java\j2re1.4.2_03.
Tomcat 5 is installed in C:\Programme\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat 5.0
JAVA_HOME is set to C:\Programme\java
Some relevant registry values:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Development Kit\CurrentVersion = 1.4
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Development Kit\1.4.2_03\JavaHome =
C:\Programme\java
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Development Kit\1.4.2_03\MicroVersion
= 2
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment\CurrentVersion =
1.4
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment\1.4\JavaHome =
C:\Programme\Java\j2re1.4.2_03
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment\1.4\MicroVersion
= 2
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment\1.4\RuntimeLib =
C:\Programme\Java\j2re1.4.2_03\bin\client\jvm.dll
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment\1.4.2_03\JavaHome

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment\1.4.2_03
\MicroVersion = 2
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment\1.4.2_03
\RuntimeLib = C:\Programme\Java\j2re1.4.2_03\bin\client\jvm.dll

In the Java VM tag in the configuration dialog there are the following setting:
Auto = off
Java VM = java (C:\Programme\java\bin is in %PATH%)
Java Options = -Dcatalina.home="C:\Programme\Apache Software Foundation\Tomcat

\common\endorsed" -Xrs
Start class = org.apache.catalina.startup.Bootstrap;main;start
Stop class = org.apache.catalina.startup.Bootstrap;main;stop

When launching Catalina it gives the following output:
