This is specially "bad" since according to the Internet Engineering Task Force
(IETF) document on IP port numbers assignments,
http://www.iana.org/assignments/port-numbers, there are 3 ranges of ports:
* The Well Known Ports : 0 - 1023
* The Registered Ports : 1024 - 49151
* The Dynamic and/or Private Ports : 49152 - 65535

Therefore, using a short does not even covers the "Registered Ports" range when
on a x86-based processor (excluding ia64).
