j_security_check isn't fed through filters

Summary: j_security_check isn't fed through filters
           Product: Tomcat 4
           Version: 4.1.25
          Platform: All
        OS/Version: All
            Status: NEW
          Severity: Major
          Priority: Other
         Component: Catalina
        AssignedTo: tomcat-dev@jakarta.apache.org
        ReportedBy: apache@alsutton.com

Any request to j_security_check within a webapp containing a filter activated
by the mapping /* does not cause the filter to be activated.

As j_security_check is referenced from a form based authentication login page
as if it resided within the webapp a filter-mapping of /* should cause the
filter to be invoked when it is called, yet it does not.
