connection re-establishment problem

I am observing these errors regularly on my server 

Error =java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]
Connection reset by peer: Connection reset by peer
Error =java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Socket 
closed
Error =java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Socket 
closed

and i will not able to do anything until i restart the tomcat server

I am using Tomcat4.1.18, Linux Red hat 7.3 and Microsoft SQL Server 2000

and using Microsoft type 4 Driver. and using tomcats connection pooling
