Subject Re: DO NOT REPLY [Bug 19602] - Allow users of ant deploy to set the docBase of the Context
Date Fri, 02 May 2003 17:57:11 GMT
Hi Remy,

OK you're absolutely right that the request is not following any spec.

These are the things I want to achieve:
*) Allow to have a Context which only points to another Context.
This pointer-Context should be able to get changed during runtime with
minimum downtime for the users accessing the real Context. This way I'd
like to be able to update without having my users to wait for the WAR file
to get undeployed/deployed.

*) Ensure consistency of uploaded WAR files
I almost daily experience truncated JAR files after uploading them to the
Tomcat server. I'd like to have a client-side hash computation running
across the WAR file, which can be verified at the server before deploying
the WAR file.

These are the basics things I'd like to have.
Do you know any existing specifications about how to deploy an application
to a J2EE server correctly? Maybe the things outlined above are already
there?

BTW - I did read the BUILDING.txt file, but didn't know that I need only
one build.xml file to get everything. Great approach, I'm about to
download the files!

thx alot
Johannes

Allow users of ant deploy to set the docBase of the Context

remm@apache.org changed:

------- Additional Comments From remm@apache.org 2003-05-02 17:22 -------
Ok, this will likely sound harsher than it's meant to be, but I am -1 on
doing
any incremental hacks to the deployer. Instead, we should work on a well
thought
out spec (possibly with incremental changes over what we currently have),
and
then implement it.

BTW, I don't quite understand what your change is supposed to do; from
what I
understand of it, I don't like it (yet another ugly hack in that poor
component).
