OK,

i just tested mod_jk, and mod_jk seems to use whatever Apache is configured to
use. So no problem with that combination.

Is there any way to query which encoding used currently?
An application will run into troubles if it wants to run with both, native
tomcat webserver and apache/mod_jk.
