Ben,

I just downloaded and installed the example from the Java developer site, and it
works OK for me. (I installed the "GettingStartedFiles.zip" file referenced in
the "Resources" section of the article.) 

Does the original example work for you?

I don't have any time debugging your modified application, but I suggest you
start with the original files in "GettingStartedFiles.zip".

If you add any System.out.println() statements to your tag handler
implementation methods, you should see the output of those print statements in
the "catalina.out" file in Tomcat's "logs" directory.
