The real problem is that, as of JDK1.4, you can no longer import afile that is not in a package.
See http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/compatibility.html under Source Compatibility,item 8, second
subitem: "The compiler now rejects import statements that import a type from the unnamed namespace...".
This probably accounts forthe original bug report.
