If you are using Unix, and use the .tar.gz, the permissions should be set
correctly on the scripts. This appears to be working well on all Unices; if
MacOS X has a problem with it, then it looks like a MacOS X problem.
If you use the zips (for example, on Solaris if you don't have gnutar), you have
to set the permissions yourself.
