odbc.jdbc Real Authentication

           Summary: odbc.jdbc Real Authentication
           Product: Tomcat 4
           Version: 4.0 Final
          Platform: All
        OS/Version: Windows 9x
            Status: NEW
          Severity: Major
          Priority: Other
         Component: Unknown
        AssignedTo: tomcat-dev@jakarta.apache.org
        ReportedBy: writetojon@hotmail.com

user and role tables per spec stored in MS Access 2000
users and roles assigned - authentication works as expected when valid users
entered with correct password - ie everything is working as i expect

until... if you fire up the browser from cold (ie no open instances anywhere)
and any browser - I have netscape on one machine and IE on another and then go
to the site, click ok to authenticate without entering any username or password,
the tomcat instance on my windows98 machine just crashes out. there is a bug log
saved which says

unable to locate function name symbol for the error. java thread top is all
sun.jdbc.odbc.jdbcodbc.bindinparameterstring(native method), the last line in
cataline was at realm.jdbcrealm.credentials(jdbcrealm.java:484)

imagehlp.dll was listed as a library

exception above was detected in native code outside the vm and then a mention of
hotspot 1.3.1_01 mixed mode

the exception:

EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION occurred at PC=0x.....
Function (N/A)
Library (N/A)

Let me know if you want any more info.

Some maybe useful stuff. I ran the tomcat 4.0 installer (6,516,626 bytes)
and the jdsdk-1_3_1_01-win.exe (34,484,291 bytes)

I am not running Apache just tomcat straight out of the box

Good luck

Jonathan
