I agree. +1 for fixing the the web.xml files that ship, rather than 
defaulting validate to "false" in WebXmlReader.

3.3 is a minor point release, and correcting a web.xml file is not that 
difficult, so I'm not too worried about the backwards-compatibility 
issue of users having to fix their own web.xml files as well. We should 
probably include this new requirement somewhere in the changelog or 
release notes, though (preferably with a reference to the exact error 
tht results, the one you reported).
