AFAIK this is by desing, now AJp12 and Ajp13 interceptors have a atributte 
called "tomcatAuthentication" that controls how authentication is done, obeying 
HTTP server , apache in your case, or Tomcat own authentication mechanism.., 
and is true by default.., so you need to add a tomcatAuthentication="false" to 
your connector interceptors..

We will try to document that better.. sorry about that..

Please test this "feature" ASAP..
