For all Redhat users (at least Intel's one), there will be 
officials (?) RPM for tomcat and tomcat modules (mod_jserv and mod_jk)

You could see them at :

SSL is supported by mod_jk and ajp13 ;-) 
I use it with apache-mod_ssl 1.3.12/2.6.6 =>
