There is a set of classes in the java jdk (unsupported) that do
encoding/decoding.

import sun.misc.BASE64Decoder;
import sun.misc.BASE64Encoder;

Be careful though, they classes themselves are syncronized, you need to wrap
them with an object pool of some kind if you want to use them in a
multi-threaded manner.
