In a nutshell, JSPs focus on:

* role separation (authors vs developers / i.e. Tag libraries and
JavaBeans)
* content == fixed data + dynamic data
* tool support

JSPs compile into servlets, so functionally there is nothing you can do
with JSPs that you cannot do with Servlets, but the experience can be
quite different.

There are white papers and presentations that touch on this at
java.sun.com/jsp.  There are also many many threads in jsp-interest and
servlet-interest (@java.sun.com), although the flairs seem to have
subsided in recent months.
