Subject Re: [Catalina] Factoring to support non-HTTP servlets and protocols
Date Sat, 15 Apr 2000 05:46:15 GMT
HearMe has extensive experience building application server platforms which
support multiple custom protocols. Developers of our POP.X product can build
the equivalent of a servlet which speaks any desired protocol and interface
to our backend services.

When I stumbled upon the Tomcat product, I realized that protocol
abstraction in a servlet engine is exactly analogous to what we are doing.
By allowing the defacto servlet reference implementation to support protocol
independence, we have a powerful frontend to our current product.

It makes perfect sense and explains why GenericServlet is there in the first
place. Glad we're all on the same page!

Andy
