Subject problem running tomcat on linux
Date Mon, 03 Jan 2000 15:54:27 GMT
Hello All,

I am trying to get tomcat running with apache 1.3.9 on linux (RH 6.1).
I have mod_jserv 1.1b3 running successfully. I have installed tomcat
and attempted to follow the various "how-to" install documents (I've run
across three, none of which seem to be in complete agreement). Anyway
after starting up tomcat and restarting apache, I try to access
http://hostname/examples and get an internal server error. I notice
that this is causing the following messages to be written to
mod_jserv.log:
(EMERGENCY) ajp12: connection fail
(ERROR) an error returned handling request via protocol "ajpv12"

I am confused somewhat by the relationship between tomcat and apache.
For instance if apache is setup to run on port 8080 does tomcat's
server.xml need to use that port as well? Do the examples directory in
tomcat need to be moved to apache's htdocs? What is the relationship
between the "context" referred to in the tomcat documentation and
mod_jserv's "servlet zones"

Thank you very much for any help and suggestions. I'm very excited
about tomcat and anxious to get it running!
