Thanks @deron for taking this over - I linked the current placeholders for this task. If possible
let's retain MatrixBlock as the writable and introduce a base class without the dependency
which holds the actual operations. This is important because use MatrixBlock as the value
in our binary representation which is based on sequence files - changing the class name would
render any binary data unreadable.
