Extracting beanutils and digester out of Struts (where they were in our 1.0 release) has been tremendously helpful to us, because there has been some tremendous innovation in those libraries recently -- and we get it for free :-). We contributed a couple of classes to Collections, but get the whole suite in return. And commons-logging makes it very easy for apps to use whatever logging implementation they want underneath ...
