There are a number of good open-source workflow projects. Werkflow from
Werken, Commons-workflow from Jakarta, OSWorkflow from Open Symphony are a
few. Commercially there are TONS, BEA Integration, Tibco Active Enterprise,
WebMethods, IBM DragonFly, Drala, etc.
Id like to include connectors to at least a few of these inside of pageflow.

Have you (or anyone on the list) looked at Bob McWhirter's 

I've been meaning to look at it more closely to see if it qualifies 
as some or part of the "open-source business application controller 
frameworks" you mention.
