what i meant was that in case of a text box, the assumption is that the user 
mistyped something, and we ask him to correct it. Testing the value of a select 
box seems superfluous, as the value should always be correct. If the user 
selects an option from a select box, and then is told that it is not 
acceptable - it might confuse him.

We can check that the user has selected at least one option... currently 
the 'required' validation gets the selected value and checks that this value is 
not ''. (assumes that '' is not an acceptable value)
