    There's an open PR ([#361](https://github.com/apache/parquet-mr/pull/361)), to support
quoted column names, but the discussion on the merits of it is on-going. I don't see a huge
benefit to supporting `.` in column names, and I'm concerned that it breaks readers like parquet-avro
that specifically don't allow them. More discussion from the Spark community is welcome there.
