1. Yes - the same stuff is installed on master and slaves. In fact they have the same AMI.

2. The base Spark AMI is created using `create_image.sh` (from a base Amazon AMI) -- After
that we pass in the AMI-ID to `spark_ec2.py` which calls `setup.sh` on the master.
