Subject Roller on Tomcat 5.5/Debian does not start: Cannot configure CacheManager?
Date Mon, 10 Dec 2007 03:44:07 GMT
Hi,

I'm trying to get Roller working, but after deploying it through the
Tomcat manager it won't start. My configuration:

-Roller 4.0
-Debian GNU/Linux unstable (*sigh*), kernel 2.6.23.1
-Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_03-b05)
-Debian's Tomcat 5.5
-PostgreSQL 8.3 beta 1

I mostly followed roller-install-guide:

1. Tomcat install behind Apache (mod_proxy_ajp), changed tomcat-users.xml.
2. Unzipped apache-roller-4.0 and jar'd up a roller.war.
3. Created database and role (user) in PostgreSQL.
4. Placed mail.jar and postgresql-8.3dev-602.jdbc4.jar in
/usr/share/tomcat5.5/common/lib.
5. Placed roller-custom.properties in /usr/share/tomcat5.5/common/classes:

installation.type=auto
database.configurationType=jdbc
database.jdbc.driverClass=org.postgresql.Driver
database.jdbc.connectionURL=jdbc:postgresql://127.0.0.1:5432/roller
database.jdbc.username=roller
database.jdbc.password=(database password here)
mail.configurationType=properties
mail.hostname=...
mail.username=...
mail.password=...

6. Deployed using Tomcat Web Application Manager.

At this point the application won't start as you can see from the
attached log. What does cause the exception?

net.sf.ehcache.CacheException: Cannot configure CacheManager:
file:/var/lib/tomcat5.5/webapps/roller/WEB-INF/classes/ehcache.xml:3:
Could not set attribute "path".

/var/lib/tomcat5.5/webapps/roller/WEB-INF/classes/ehcache.xml:3 is:

<diskStore path="java.io.tmpdir"/>

Might this be some sort of permissions problem, given that Tomcat is
running under a security manager?

Thanks!

Cheers,

Thomas Luzat
