I cannot reproduce this problem on Glassfish/Derby. I believe you are getting the "hostname
in the URL doesn't seem to exist" error because you are running on an intranet that requires
a proxy.  Unfortunately, the weblogs pings stuff cannot be configured to use a proxy.

If that is the case, then this is not a bug. You could file an enhancement request titled
"Allow Weblog Ping system to use proxy settings" but I think it's a very low priority feature.
