Is it under an apache license? We've got a copy of the Jini Patent Covenant, if the license is Apache 2, there seem to be enough original developers around to verify the code's provenance (the original authors need to confirm the source code and its license, they don't have to donate it, grant it etc). This should be sufficient to rescue it. It doesn't look like we're able to use the surrogate source unfortunately, due to provenance. We've got a copy on Jira for history's sake. As a minimum we should attempt to preserve the code (even if the license isn't compatible), if its still available, leaving the door open to resuscitate it later.
